The DPS hero Sombra is set to undergo a significant rework in Overwatch 2, aimed at making her less frustrating to counter. The hero design team has outlined the changes, which will be implemented on Oct. 10, focusing on reducing the overpowered nature of her abilities and creating more opportunities for opponents to respond.
One of the major sources of frustration when playing against Sombra is her Translocator ability, which allows her to escape easily. To address this, the rework will automatically teleport Sombra after a short delay, making it harder for her to use it as a “get out of jail free” card. The cooldown for Translocator has also been reduced, allowing her to use it more frequently.
Another aspect of Sombra’s kit that has caused frustration is her stealth and hack abilities. While her hacking ability will still have the same effects, using it will now force Sombra to exit stealth. This change aims to make her more engaged in combat and give opponents a consistent opportunity to respond.
Stealth, which was previously an active ability, will now be a passive one. After a short period of time without engaging in combat, Sombra will become invisible. This change removes the ability for Sombra to manually activate Stealth and encourages her to be more active in the game.
In addition to these changes, Sombra will receive a new ability called Virus, which damages enemies over time. This ability will deal more damage to hacked enemies, keeping the previous passive ability, Opportunist, alive in some way. Her ultimate ability, EMP, has also been slightly nerfed with increased charge cost and decreased damage dealt.
These changes aim to make playing against Sombra less frustrating and provide more opportunities for counterplay. If Sombra has been a deterrent for you in Overwatch 2, these reworks might make you reconsider playing the game.
