Sony has decided to sever ties with the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, for its PlayStation consoles. The integration feature that allowed players to easily upload images and videos to Twitter from their PlayStation will be discontinued in mid-November.
Starting on November 13th, PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles will no longer have Twitter/X integration. This means that players will no longer be able to directly upload images to Twitter from their console. The only way to access and post content on social media will be through the PS App.
Ironically, I used the Twitter integration system to capture a screenshot of the notification that every PlayStation user received on November 6th. The integration has made it effortless for players to share their content online by adding hashtags such as #PS4share or #PS5share. If you search for these hashtags on Twitter, you’ll find plenty of content from players who enjoy sharing their gaming experiences.
Until the introduction of the PS App, there were no significant integrations for PlayStation consoles other than Twitter. The PS App, created in 2011, underwent major updates for the PS4 and PS5, allowing players to download games to their console and use it as a remote.
With the removal of Twitter integration, the PS App will become the primary method for fans to access their screenshots and videos. Fortunately, getting accustomed to the app is easy. As someone who frequently uses it for games like Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2, I can attest to its user-friendly interface.
To link the PlayStation App to your console, follow these steps:
1. Download the PS App from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
2. Sign in with your PlayStation account.
3. Ensure that your phone and console are connected to the same internet connection.
4. Open the app’s settings and select “Link Console to App.”
5. Follow the instructions on both the console and app to complete the connection.
Once the connection is established, you’ll find five tabs at the bottom of the PS App screen. Go to the “Game Library” tab, represented by a series of boxes with a controller icon. Within this section, there are two tabs: one for games and another for captures.
Select the “Captures” tab to view all the saved content on your console since connecting with the PS App. This includes menu screenshots and game videos. By tapping on an image or video, you can choose to share it via PlayStation’s messaging, view its details, or download it to your phone.
Although posting content online has become more challenging due to the evolution of Twitter and the removal of other social media connections, the PS App still provides a viable solution. It may require a few extra steps, but players can easily share their content with the world.
Sony had placed great emphasis on the Share buttons of their PS4 and PS5 consoles, enabling users to effortlessly post content online. However, with the changing landscape of social media platforms, the PS App has become the go-to method for sharing screenshots and videos. While it may require an additional step, it remains a reliable option for PlayStation players.
