After almost 30 years, Star Wars: Dark Forces is making a comeback with a stunning 4K remaster. The highly anticipated release date has been announced for February 28, 2024, almost three decades after the original game took the world by storm in 1995. Regarded as one of the best Star Wars first-person shooters, fans can expect the remastered version to stay true to its roots while offering modern enhancements.
The remastered edition of Star Wars: Dark Forces will be available on all platforms, including current and previous generation consoles. Despite the game’s relatively simple graphics, it will still be compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One, proving that these consoles still have some power left in them.
Developer Nightdive has promised to preserve the revolutionary gameplay of the original, allowing players to jump, swim, and freely look around—an uncommon feature during the golden age of first-person shooters. The remaster will also include modern features such as 4K resolution and 120FPS, thanks to the collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and the utilization of Nightdive’s KEX engine.
In line with the recent trend of remasters, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will maintain the same graphical style, art direction, and cutscenes as the original. However, these elements will be improved to suit modern screens and hardware. This approach is reminiscent of the Diablo 2 remaster, which offered quality-of-life and graphical enhancements while allowing players to switch back to the classic look if desired.
