Fans of Starfield are urging Bethesda to include a comprehensive guide within the game, similar to the Codex found in the Mass Effect series. Many believe that such a feature should have been available to players from the start.
The Starfield community desires a centralized place where they can access information about characters, cities, creatures, factions, plants, planets, moons, resources, and stories they encounter. They find it strange that this feature is not already included in the game.
One player expressed their disappointment, stating, “It seems like a huge oversight that this doesn’t exist in a game where scanning objects for information is a core mechanic.” Another player added, “Not just a codex, but a database with search functions. How is this not already in the game?”
The Codex in Mass Effect received praise for providing additional details and depth to the story, allowing players to feel more connected to the world they were exploring. It made each new location and character more intriguing because players could learn about their history and background. However, in Starfield, players feel lost without an easy way to keep track of the fascinating discoveries they make.
One player suggested that the codex could be accessible through computer terminals in major cities and outposts in Starfield. Another player found this idea so appealing that they pledged to create a mod themselves, although it may take some time.
Players also took the opportunity to criticize the current star map feature, which displays visited star systems as small white dots and unvisited ones as tiny red dots. They believe that a codex with a list of star systems would be much more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
Players are hopeful that Bethesda will eventually add this feature to the game. However, they are not overly optimistic. If nothing changes, they are relying on the player who promised to create a Codex mod. Unfortunately, this solution won’t be available for console players.
