Starfield: Solid, but not a Top Three Bethesda Game, Say Players

superadmin

After over five weeks since its release, dedicated players of Starfield have weighed in on where it stands among Bethesda’s catalog of games. While most players agree that the game is solid, there is a consensus that it still has some issues to address before it can be considered one of Bethesda’s top three titles.

In a recent discussion on the Starfield subreddit, players ranked the game just inside the top five of Bethesda’s games. The top choices that outranked Starfield were three Elder Scrolls entries: Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. Fans of the Fallout series consistently ranked Fallout 4 higher than Starfield.

Some players commented that Starfield, in its current state, does not make it into the top three Bethesda games. They believe that even with updates, it would still fall short. However, they also acknowledged that not every game needs to be the best ever.

Bethesda fans are known for their loyalty to the studio, as many of their games follow a similar formula to their predecessors. Starfield shares similarities with Bethesda classics like Fallout 3 and Skyrim in terms of engine, progression system, and gameplay loop.

Personally, I found that Starfield’s campaign echoed many aspects of Skyrim’s progression choices, particularly in terms of pacing. The discovery of Starborn powers reminded me of discovering the ability to shout in Skyrim. Additionally, the inclusion of four set-in-stone side factions with their own quest chains in Starfield mirrored Skyrim’s approach with the Companions, Thieves’ Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and College of Winterhold.

It’s important to note that Starfield is not a bad game. If you enjoy the Bethesda game model, you will likely enjoy it. While some players criticized certain design choices, such as over-reliance on fast travel, a potentially repetitive skill progression system, and excessive loading screens, it ultimately depends on your personal experience with the game.
