Elias Toufexis, the voice actor for Sam Coe in Bethesda’s upcoming game Starfield, shut down a homophobic comment by confirming that his character is bisexual. The player had expressed disgust at the idea of male characters flirting with Sam, assuming he was straight. However, Toufexis clarified on Twitter that he played Sam as a bisexual character based on discussions about the character’s sexuality during the five years he worked on the game.
Toufexis explained that he portrayed Sam as someone who had already made the choice about his sexuality, rather than experimenting with it for the first time with the player. This informed how he delivered certain lines, especially when it came to interactions with male characters expressing interest in Sam.
Many gamers praised Toufexis for defending bisexual characters and representation in gaming. They also expressed their enjoyment of traveling with Sam in the game and commended the voice actor for his performance.
Bethesda is not alone in creating diverse characters, as many developers have been introducing bisexual characters in their games to provide representation and more opportunities for players. Baldur’s Gate 3, for example, allows players to romance multiple companions regardless of gender.
In Starfield, players have the option to pursue romantic relationships with different characters. However, it is advisable to consider each choice carefully before pursuing love with every single one of them.
