Starfield, the highly anticipated space game, is leaving players feeling nauseated and disappointed due to its low field of view (FOV) in first-person mode. Many players are experiencing motion sickness, while others are frustrated by the lack of an official FOV slider setting. However, PC players can take advantage of a workaround mod created by a user named Hellstorm102 on NexusMods. Unfortunately, console players will have to wait for Bethesda to address this issue.
To use the mod, PC players need to create a text file named “StarfieldCustom.ini” in the Starfield folder located in Documents/MyGames. In the text document, add the following lines, adjusting the ‘x’ value to your desired FOV:
[Camera] fFPWorldFOV=x fTPWorldFOV=x
For example, if you want an FOV of 100, add:
[Camera] fFPWorldFOV=100.0000 fTPWorldFOV=100.0000
Save the file and launch Starfield to enjoy the game with your chosen FOV.
Unfortunately, Xbox users cannot use this workaround and are stuck with the default low FOV until Bethesda provides a solution. Players have criticized Bethesda for sacrificing an important setting for optimized performance and have also expressed disappointment over the lack of a brightness slider, which affects the game’s visuals.
Starfield also faces performance issues across platforms, which is not uncommon for a newly released game. Players hope that Bethesda will address these problems, including the missing FOV slider, in a future patch.
Note that the FOV restriction only applies to first-person mode. In third-person mode, players can adjust the view angle using the mouse slider or the controller’s View button on Xbox.
