Struggles and Frustrations: Nadeshot’s Journey in VALORANT

superadmin

Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, the renowned Call of Duty player and founder of 100 Thieves esports organization, has been dedicating himself to mastering VALORANT. However, transitioning from a controller to a mouse and keyboard has presented its fair share of challenges. In a lengthy Twitter thread on October 1st, Nadeshot expressed his frustrations with his inconsistent performance in the game.

Despite investing a significant amount of time into VALORANT, Nadeshot admitted that his mouse control hasn’t improved as much as he had hoped. Some days, he feels comfortable and precise, while other days, it seems like he has never used a mouse before. This inconsistency has led him to question whether his age plays a role in reaching a performance ceiling.

Nadeshot’s post sparked a response from professional players across various genres and titles. Apex Legends pro Christopher “sweetdreams” Sexton and Sentinels VALORANT star Zachary “zekken” Patrone were among those who offered advice. However, the most valuable insight came from Complexity Counter-Strike pro Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski.

EliGE emphasized the importance of focused practice and efficient training. He dismissed the notion that age significantly impacts performance, stating that great strides can be made by honing specific skills and making informed decisions in tactical first-person shooters. EliGE also highlighted the need to address the underlying fundamentals rather than relying solely on talent or skill.

Transitioning from a controller to a mouse and keyboard is undoubtedly challenging. The absence of aim assist, which is prevalent in controller-centric games, can make hitting precise shots feel frustrating. Additionally, mastering advanced movements without muscle memory on a keyboard can be daunting. However, with dedicated practice and a focus on improving fundamentals, it is possible to excel in first-person shooters, regardless of age or status as an esports organization founder.
