Suika Game, the addictive fruit puzzle game that has taken the streaming world by storm, is now accessible to Nintendo Switch users worldwide. With its recent international eShop launch on October 20th, players can now enjoy this Tetris-like game on their Switch consoles, adding an extra burst of excitement to the already popular title.
Developed by Aladdin X, a Japanese electronics company, Suika Game was initially created as a built-in application for a ceiling projector in 2021. However, due to its growing popularity, the game was released on the Japanese eShop for the Switch eight months later.
Since September, Suika Game has gained even more attention through streaming platforms. According to TwitchTracker, the game started gaining viewership on September 15th, with a peak of nearly 18,000 viewers across four channels. In October, the game has already surpassed 26,000 viewers on two separate occasions and is regularly streamed by over 60 channels daily.
In an interview with Nippon TV, Aladdin X revealed that sales of the Switch version have increased “by more than 50,000 times” compared to two years ago before the game went viral. The company attributes the game’s recent success to its cute and friendly art style, simple rules, and the motivating atmosphere that encourages players to improve even after failing.
Suika Game has become a hit among VTubers and casual gamers alike, thanks to its engaging gameplay and relaxing background music. Similar to Tetris, the game challenges players’ cognitive skills in a fun and competitive setting. Despite its lack of a running timer, the fruit puzzle sets the stage for chaotic and thrilling gameplay.
As of now, Suika Game has surpassed over 1.4 million downloads and remains the top downloaded game on the Japanese eShop. Although the game is currently only available in Japanese, its language barrier hasn’t stopped players from enjoying the experience of growing gigantic watermelons and achieving high scores.
