Team Liquid’s journey at Worlds 2023 has come to an end as they were eliminated in the 0-2 bracket by GAM Esports. Despite winning the second game, Liquid’s mistakes and lack of proper strategy proved to be their downfall in the first and third games. GAM Esports capitalized on these errors and secured their spot in the next round of the tournament.
In the first game, Liquid initially had a small advantage but their aggressive playstyle backfired as GAM Esports executed precise counterattacks. Liquid fought back in the second game, with Pyosik’s Kindred pick playing a crucial role in leveling the series.
Unfortunately for LCS fans, the third game was a one-sided affair. GAM Esports focused on dominating the top side of the map, feeding Kiaya’s K’Sante and Levi’s Wukong. With this early advantage, GAM Esports quickly extended their lead and controlled the entire Summoner’s Rift.
This loss means that Pyosik, Liquid’s jungler and defending world champion, will not be able to defend his title. Despite the efforts of Pyosik, Summit, and CoreJJ, the rookies APA and Yeon were unable to perform at their best. However, considering their lack of international experience, they deserve recognition for giving their all.
Team BDS and Dplus KIA will now face off in the next series, with one of them joining Liquid in exiting the Worlds 2023 Swiss stage on Oct. 23.
