The War Within: WoW Players Urge Blizzard to Learn from Past Mistakes

superadmin

The War Within, the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, is set to launch in November 2024, introducing exciting features like Hero talents and Delves. However, players are hoping that Blizzard Entertainment will learn from the mistakes made in the previous expansion, Dragonflight, and avoid a major issue that plagued it.

In a post on WoW’s subreddit, user Mishartwist expressed their disappointment with Dragonflight, specifically the parts of the story that were locked behind the Renown grind. Fans are now urging Blizzard to refrain from implementing this mechanic in The War Within. While major campaign quests can be accessed without grinding Renown or reputation, there are special questlines like Tyr and Green Dragonflight that require players to complete world quests and events until they reach a certain Renown level to unlock them.

Mishartwist explains, “As a result, I was unable to experience questlines that revealed significant story elements, such as Ysera swapping with Malfurion to return to Azeroth, or the entire Tyr questline. Although I didn’t play 10.1, when I returned for 10.2 on a new character and attempted to follow the story in order, I found myself clueless about why Tyr was standing with the other NPCs at the end of the Emerald Dream campaign. I had no idea why Malfurion wasn’t there with them in the literal Emerald Dream.”

While these additional questlines are not essential to the main story of Dragonflight, they do have a significant impact on the overall narrative. If players do not complete these questlines, the story may feel disjointed and confusing. Therefore, it would be best to decouple main storyline chapters from the Renown system. Dragonflight took a step in the right direction by not locking patch storylines behind the main campaign, but all limitations related to the story should be removed to allow fans to explore and experience Khaz Algar at their own pace.
