Last weekend, Twitch streamers were shocked to receive massive donations of $100 million. However, suspicions arose among users who believe a Streamlabs exploit may be responsible for these extraordinary amounts.
During a livestream on September 17, popular Minecraft streamer Forsen received the jaw-dropping donation. Overwhelmed, he immediately questioned its authenticity, unable to fathom such a large sum.
On the same day, League of Legends streamer Jankos also received a staggering donation of nearly $19 million, followed by an additional $8 million shortly after. Responding sarcastically, he remarked, “That’s a lot of cash, bro.”
Users in the livestream comments and on a Reddit thread suspect that a Streamlabs exploit is behind these trolling donations. While streamers are not convinced by the absurd amounts, there is concern that this exploit could be used to send multiple fake donations with more reasonable amounts, leading streamers to mistakenly believe they are genuine.
Neither Streamlabs nor Twitch have addressed the issue at this time. Livestreams indicate that donation prompts appear on video, but streamers do not witness any actual transactions taking place. Therefore, these troll donations are purely for show.
Twitch extensions have been vulnerable to hacks and exploits in the past. On September 10, streamers experienced chat hijackings and compromised accounts when using CVS-developed extensions like Pando and Stream Alerts TV. These extensions have yet to return to the platform.
