Unlock the Iconic Ironforge Mountaineer Armor Set in World of Warcraft

Tim Price

For years, players have longed to recreate the iconic green mail armor set worn by the dwarf Hunter in the original World of Warcraft promotional art. Now, thanks to a recent addition to the game, this legendary look is finally within reach.

A WoW player named Derunik recently shared their creation of the famous armor set on the World of Warcraft subreddit. Previously, it had been incredibly challenging to replicate this set due to the lack of similar transmog options available for Hunters.

The armor set, known as the “Ironforge Mountaineer” set, gained fame from its appearance on the original World of Warcraft box art. It features a green cloak, green hood, and mail armor, and is often associated with the dwarves who patrol the mountains near their capital city. The set’s unique blend of green and brown colors, as well as the incorporation of cloth armor into the helmet slot of a mail armor set, made it particularly difficult to recreate.

In 2014, the Trailseeker set was introduced with the launch of Warlords of Draenor, offering a base for a similar-looking set. However, the helmet in that set differed from the traditional green hood required to complete the iconic Ironforge Mountaineer look. It wasn’t until the Trading Post recently added new stock that the much-needed green hood became available in WoW.

The green hood used by Derunik in their transmog set can be obtained from the Trading Post’s Vagabond’s Lively Threads ensemble. This item can be purchased for 100 Trader’s Tender and will be available until October 31st.

The green armor worn by the dwarf Hunter has become a symbol of nostalgia for many WoW players, representing the “old WoW” era. However, in Classic WoW, it was impossible to recreate this set as most Hunter armor looked different from what the dwarf was wearing. While the main pieces of the set have been available for some time, the helmet was the missing piece that players had been eagerly awaiting, and it is now finally obtainable (albeit for a limited time).

If you have a dwarf Hunter character, don’t miss the opportunity to acquire the Vagabond’s Lively Threads ensemble from the Trading Post. This will grant you access to one of the most iconic and sought-after armor sets in World of Warcraft history.
