VALORANT Champions Tour Season 2 to Intensify Schedule, Ignoring Player Burnout Concerns

Xavier Ward

The upcoming season of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) is set to be even busier, with an additional team in each international league and the introduction of the official China league. However, concerns about player burnout and an overpacked schedule will not be addressed until after this season. In an interview with Asia Today, Jake “RiotJaker” Sin, the head of VALORANT Esports for the APAC region, discussed the busier schedule for 2024.

Sin stated that next year’s schedule will increase overall, but there won’t be a significant increase in the time between competitions due to the addition of more tournaments. It is only from 2025 onwards that they will consider planning ahead and allocating appropriate rest time. This lack of consideration for player rest may be alarming to some, as player burnout was a major issue at the end of the previous season, affecting teams like Fnatic and Evil Geniuses. Unfortunately, it seems that the situation may worsen in 2024.

Back in July, former Liquid coach Connor “Sliggy” Blomfield predicted this scenario, anticipating a packed schedule for the 2024 VCT and an increase in reports of player burnout compared to the previous year. This revelation has raised concerns among participants in the Plat Chat podcast, with VCT caster Brennon “Bren” Hook expressing his belief that the schedule for next year will be horrifically packed.

The 2024 season is expected to start earlier than last year, with each league hosting its own kickoff event to determine the qualifying teams for the Masters Madrid event in March.

Time Score
2024 season Expected to be busier with additional teams in each league
2025 onwards Consideration for planning ahead and distributing rest time
Player burnout Affected teams like Fnatic and Evil Geniuses in previous season
2024 VCT schedule Predicted to be packed and increase reports of player burnout
2024 season start Expected to be earlier than last year
