Riot Games has been tight-lipped about official player numbers for their games, but a recent report reveals that VALORANT currently boasts 28 million monthly players, double the number from last year. The game also saw 10 million downloads in its first month of release in 2020.
According to Riot Games, 70% of VALORANT players, approximately 19.6 million, belong to Generation Z. This age group, born between 1996 and 2010, is known for their constant online presence and high media consumption. This explains the popularity of VALORANT content on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok.
The significant number of players allows Riot Games to keep VALORANT free-to-play while providing additional content and features. Although specific spending figures were not disclosed, the revenue generated supports the game’s ongoing development.
This generational divide is also reflected in the professional esports scene of VALORANT. The majority of players in international VCT leagues are younger, with only a few aged 28 or older. It is expected that more young players in the 13-16 age range will enter the competitive scene in the coming years.
Overall, VALORANT’s continued growth and popularity among Generation Z players highlight the game’s appeal to the “always online” generation. With millions of monthly players and a thriving esports scene, VALORANT shows no signs of slowing down.
