Blizzard Entertainment is finally making it easier for World of Warcraft (WoW) players to integrate their alt characters with their main characters through the introduction of the “Warbands” system in the game’s next expansion. This new system, set to be released in The War Within next September, will allow certain features, such as reputation and transmog sets, to be connected across all characters on a player’s WoW account.
The Warbands system will consist of a group of alts, with each character’s progression systems intertwined. The aim of this system is to respect the player’s time behind the keyboard, rather than focusing solely on individual characters, according to WoW associate game director Morgan Day.
For years, WoW players have been requesting account-wide reputation, especially since the Mists of Pandaria expansion introduced reputation grinding and an increasing number of factions. With Warbands, all reputation and renown earned on one character will carry over to other characters in the Warband.
Additionally, Warbands will make other systems account-wide, including characters’ banks. This means players will no longer need dedicated alts to store items, as all characters in the Warband can access and store items collectively.
Furthermore, Warbands will expand transmog options, allowing players to share appearances across different armor classes. For example, cloth appearances collected by a cloth-wearing class can be shared with plate-wearing characters, eliminating the need to farm instances repeatedly on separate classes.
This feature will be particularly beneficial for players farming rare, armor-class-specific items like the Tusks of Mannoroth or First Satyr’s Spaulders. Instead of running those dungeons and raids again on different classes, the Warbands system will save players time and effort.
Warbands will revolutionize the way WoW players interact with their alts, as it breaks the restrictions previously imposed on individual characters. When The War Within expansion launches in 2024, alt enthusiasts across Azeroth can expect a much smoother and more convenient gameplay experience.
