Weibo Gaming emerged victorious over Fnatic at the League of Legends World Championship 2023, securing their spot in the quarterfinals. With a score of 2-1, the LPL fourth seed eliminated Fnatic from the competition, leaving only G2 Esports as EMEA’s last hope at Worlds.
In the first game, Fnatic showcased their skills and took an early lead. However, Weibo remained composed and turned the tide in the second game with a decisive move around Baron, leveling the series at 1-1.
From that point on, Weibo Gaming took control and never looked back, ultimately eliminating Fnatic. In the decisive third match, Weibo strategically countered Fnatic’s comfort picks and executed their game plan flawlessly. Their superior control of the game proved to be the deciding factor.
This marks the third consecutive year that Fnatic has failed to reach the top eight at Worlds after a string of quarterfinal appearances from 2017 to 2020. Despite a challenging season, Fnatic’s performance in the LEC Summer and Season Finals earned them a spot in the World Championship.
With Fnatic out of the competition, G2 Esports remains as the last hope for the LEC. They are currently facing Bilibili Gaming in the final game of the Swiss Stage at the 2023 World Championship.
