Why Do VALORANT Players Forget to Carry the Spike?

Derek Morgan

VALORANT players often forget to carry the Spike, the most basic mechanic of the game. Despite reminders in the form of voice lines, players still neglect to pick it up, leading to frustrating situations and lost rounds.

A Reddit post by u/Shadowz_07 highlighted this issue, questioning why players refuse to carry the Spike. While some duelists may have valid reasons for not wanting to carry it, such as the risk of dying mid-site, there are instances where players simply leave the Spike behind and complain that no one picked it up.

One peculiar incident mentioned in the post involved two players passing the bomb back and forth, trying to avoid carrying it, ultimately resulting in the Spike being left behind.

Many players can relate to this frustration, as they have experienced games where teammates refuse to carry the Spike. This behavior often leads to lost rounds and a painful spectator experience.

One comment from a player on the Reddit post shed light on the mindset of the average VALORANT player. They suggested that players see themselves as the main character and want to engage in all fights, which is not possible when carrying the Spike.

Another comment humorously pointed out that players play games to escape responsibilities, not to pick up new ones. This could explain why many players dislike the idea of committing to carrying the Spike.

While there are disadvantages to carrying and planting the Spike, such as vulnerability and restricted movement, it is an essential part of the game. As an attacker, planting the Spike is necessary to win rounds. If players continuously pass it around or leave it in the base, they are likely to lose crucial rounds.

It is important for players to communicate and ask for cover while planting the Spike, but refusing to carry it when needed, especially for controllers or sentinels, can greatly hinder the team’s success.

Carrying the Spike may come with its challenges, but it is a responsibility that players must embrace in order to secure victories in VALORANT.
