World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Mastery, released in November 2021, quickly became deserted. Players have been wondering why it failed, and some believe they have found the answer.
According to a Reddit user, u/zipzzo, the main reason for Season of Mastery’s failure was its timing. It was launched right after Classic WoW and coincided with the release of The Burning Crusade Classic expansion on June 1, 2021. Players were still immersed in Classic WoW and were not yet yearning to revisit the old Azeroth.
Many players were burnt out from the Classic content and were more excited about diving into The Burning Crusade. The timing of Season of Mastery just didn’t align with their interests.
Some players also criticized Blizzard for making certain changes to the game, such as introducing PvP gear from the beginning. These changes may have contributed to the lack of interest in Season of Mastery.
Seasonal WoW Classic offers a more casual approach to the game, which is appealing to those who don’t want the intense challenge of WoW Classic Hardcore servers.
There have been rumors of a possible Season of Mastery 2, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Fans may have to wait until BlizzCon 2023 in November for any official announcements.
