Why Shedinja is Missing in Gen IX: The Theory Behind its Absence

superadmin

Shedinja, the peculiar Bug/Ghost Pokémon from Generation III, is noticeably absent in the latest Pokémon games, Gen IX. Players have come up with an interesting theory to explain this absence, and it actually makes a lot of sense.

According to a fan theory shared on Reddit, Shedinja and its evolutionary line might be banned from the region of Paldea due to their potential invincibility if they were to Terastallize. The people of Paldea are believed to be aware of this danger and are actively working to keep Shedinja away from their region and the Tera crystals.

The reason behind this ban lies in Shedinja’s unique ability called Wonder Guard. This ability makes Shedinja immune to any attack that is not super effective against it. With its Bug/Ghost typing alone, Shedinja already has 13 type immunities.

However, if Shedinja were to have the Electric Tera Type, it would become immune to every type except Ground. By equipping it with an Air Balloon item, it could even become immune to Ground attacks. In this scenario, Shedinja would be virtually invincible unless opponents have alternative ways of dealing damage, such as hazards or weather effects. Without proper preparation, Shedinja could remain on the battlefield as an annoying and unbeatable presence.

Although Shedinja may not have impressive stats, its combination of semi-invincibility and a base Attack stat of 90 makes it a formidable opponent. It can cause significant damage and be a real pain to battle against.

To prevent such a situation, the theory suggests that locals in Paldea would station themselves near the region’s four lighthouses to question travelers about the presence of Shedinja, Ninjask, or Nincada in their party. It seems that keeping these Pokémon out of any games or regions where Terastallization exists is for the best.

So, while Shedinja may be missing from Gen IX, it appears to be a deliberate choice by the people of Paldea to avoid the potential chaos and frustration that this unique Pokémon could bring.
