Blizzard has announced the next chapter in the World of Warcraft Classic journey, bringing back the controversial Cataclysm expansion. Cataclysm, known for its divisive changes to Azeroth, will now have the opportunity to be revisited and improved upon.
Cataclysm, WoW’s third expansion, marked a turning point in the game’s history by completely redesigning quests and open-world zones. While it had a high player count, it also received mixed reviews. Now, after 14 years, Blizzard aims to correct the mistakes of the past and provide a better experience for players.
WoW Classic fans have been enjoying the older version of the game for years, and Blizzard has been actively listening to the community’s feedback. Alongside alternative modes like Classic Hardcore and seasonal updates, re-releasing expansions taps into players’ nostalgia for specific versions of the game.
Blizzard promises “some changes” to Cataclysm Classic, aiming to improve the gameplay and make it more enjoyable. The pace of content will be faster, with a speed-up mechanic for leveling and expedited release of endgame content. This means players can experience iconic raids like Firelands and Dragon Soul at a quicker rate.
WoW Cataclysm Classic is set to be released in the first half of 2024, as announced by WoW executive producer Holly Longdale.
