Blizzard Entertainment has announced the next chapter of World of Warcraft, called The Worldsoul Saga. This new saga will consist of three separate expansions, and unlike previous releases, they will be launched at a faster pace.
During a media briefing at BlizzCon 2023, lead WoW game designer Maria Hamilton revealed that The Worldsoul expansions will be released more quickly than before. While specific numbers were not disclosed, the aim is to ensure that players do not have to wait as long as they did for previous expansions. The development teams have restructured their workflows to parallelize work and already begin working on the next expansion, Midnight.
Typically, WoW expansions have a lifespan of around two years. However, The Worldsoul Saga will deviate from this pattern. For instance, Shadowlands was released in November 2020 and concluded with Dragonflight in November 2022. The only exceptions to this timeline are the rereleases of WoW Classic, with The Burning Crusade in 2021 and The Wrath of the Lich King in 2022.
Each chapter of The Worldsoul Saga will be sold separately, but there is no information yet regarding the pricing of the expansions and subscriptions. It is expected that the subscription system will remain in place, with the base edition of the game priced at $49.99, and other editions potentially having higher price tags. The value for money will depend on the content and whether these upcoming expansions truly justify their price.
