World of Warcraft Players Chase Rare Mounts for Years

Tim Price

World of Warcraft players come in all shapes and sizes, and while some love to tackle the game’s toughest challenges, others spend countless hours in pursuit of rare mounts that are nearly impossible to obtain. One player recently achieved the ultimate victory by finally obtaining the elusive Swift Zulian Tiger mount, which had an incredibly low drop rate in the original version of the Zul’Gurub raid.

The Swift Zulian Tiger mount was reworked in Patch 4.1 of the Cataclysm expansion, making it no longer available as a drop from High Priest Thekal in the Zul’Gurub dungeon. However, it can still be obtained through the Black Market Auction House, which is where our dedicated player, lasko_leaf_blower, found it.

Lasko logged in on eight different characters at 11:25 PST, diligently checking if the legendary mount had appeared on the auction house. After several unsuccessful attempts, luck finally smiled upon them. There it was, the Swift Zulian Tiger, waiting to be claimed. Without hesitation, Lasko spent a staggering 9,999,999 gold to secure the mount they had been dreaming of for years.

According to Wowhead, only three percent of the WoW population can proudly call themselves owners of the Swift Zulian Tiger. Similar mounts with either impossibly low drop rates or no longer obtainable include the Shackled Ur’zul, Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent, Ashes of Al’ar, and Mimiron’s Head.

The Black Market Auction House is a risky endeavor, requiring substantial time, gold, and patience. For those lacking these resources, alternative methods such as mount world tours rely on the whims of RNG (random number generator) to grant their desired mounts.

Table: Rare Mounts in World of Warcraft

Mount Availability
Swift Zulian Tiger Black Market Auction House
Shackled Ur’zul Antorus, the Burning Throne raid
Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent Sha of Anger world boss
Ashes of Al’ar The Eye raid
Mimiron’s Head Ulduar raid

These rare mounts are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, adding a sense of prestige to those fortunate enough to obtain them. Whether through the Black Market Auction House or other means, players continue their quest for these elusive treasures in the vast world of Azeroth.
