WoW Dragonflight Patch 10.2 Removes Renown Requirement for Flying on Dragon Isles

Xavier Ward

The latest patch for World of Warcraft Dragonflight, set to go live on November 7th, will remove the Renown requirements for unlocking regular flying on the Dragon Isles. This highly anticipated update introduces Dragonriding as a new and exciting way to traverse the Dragon Isles quickly. Previously, players could only summon and ride flying mounts for regular flying, but now they can enjoy the thrill of Dragonriding.

Many players expressed their dissatisfaction with the previous requirements for unlocking flying on the Dragon Isles, as it involved completing all quests, exploring all new zones, and reaching Renown rank 15 with all Dragonflight factions. Reaching rank 15 was an arduous task that would hinder players from experiencing regular flying, often requiring weeks or even months of grinding Renown.

Fortunately, Blizzard has listened to player feedback and decided to remove the Renown requirement. Now, players only need to complete every quest and explore every zone to unlock regular flying, which is a much more manageable task.

Flying has been a feature in World of Warcraft since 2006, initially introduced in The Burning Crusade expansion. However, Blizzard made it increasingly challenging for players to obtain flying abilities after the Warlords of Draenor expansion in 2014. While most players welcomed this change, as it encouraged them to engage in ground activities, each subsequent expansion made the process longer and more difficult.

In the previous expansion, Shadowlands (2020), Blizzard made the process of obtaining flying extremely grindy by requiring players to earn Renown with their factions. This demanded weeks or even months of dedicated gameplay.

Although obtaining flying in previous WoW expansions remains challenging, it is a relief that players will not have to work as hard to unlock regular flying in Dragonflight with the upcoming patch. This change will undoubtedly enhance the overall gameplay experience for players.
