XDefiant, the highly anticipated FPS game, will not meet its expected release date due to complications in the submission process. Executive producer Mark Rubin recently shared an update, revealing that the game encountered compliance issues during the submission phase, causing delays.
In a blog post, Rubin explained that the initial submission received a “Not Pass” verdict, indicating the need for additional work to meet compliance requirements. This unexpected setback prompted the team to spend the past few weeks addressing these issues and preparing for another submission.
The submission process involves multiple steps, including submitting a Candidate Master (CM) version of the game to distributors like Ubisoft, Sony, and Microsoft for approval. Currently, XDefiant is in the CM preparation stage and plans to submit to first parties in approximately two weeks.
If the submission passes without any conditions, the game could potentially be released by mid-to-end of September. However, there is a possibility of a conditional pass, which would require a Day One patch to address final compliance fixes. In such a scenario, the release date would be pushed to early/mid-October.
This delay may disappoint fans who were expecting a release in late summer. However, Rubin emphasized the importance of ensuring a polished and compliant game before launch.
It’s worth noting that the potential release window in early/mid-October coincides with the beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This sets up a potential showdown between the established CoD franchise and the newcomer XDefiant, which aims to appeal to fans of older CoD games.
Rubin concluded the blog post by teasing upcoming additions to XDefiant based on player requests. Map voting and a Search and Destroy-like mode are in the pipeline, promising even more exciting features for players.
