Jirard Khalil, also known as The Completionist, has been caught in a scandal involving his charity organization, the Open Hand Foundation. Recent videos by SomeOrdinaryGamers and Karl Jobst have revealed that the foundation has withheld over $600,000 in charitable contributions.
The Open Hand Foundation was established in 2003 to support dementia patients and their families, inspired by Khalil’s own experience with his mother’s illness. Despite claiming to have raised more than $600,000 as a non-profit organization, Khalil admitted that none of the money has been donated to charity.
When questioned about the funds, Khalil stated that the organization had not found a suitable charity to donate the money to. This explanation raises doubts, as the Open Hand Foundation has claimed partnerships with reputable organizations like the University of San Francisco (UCSF) and the Alzheimer Foundation of America. However, the former dean of UCSF, whom the foundation quoted as expressing gratitude for donations, was fired in 2007, casting doubt on the validity of these claims.
In response to the allegations, Khalil asked for suggestions of suitable organizations to donate the funds to, which contradicts his previous claims of already having partnerships with various foundations.
Khalil further claimed that he was unaware the money had not been donated until 2021 and took it upon himself to rectify the situation. However, Karl Jobst noted that there has been no change in Khalil’s behavior following this alleged realization. Additionally, SomeOrdinaryGamers’ Mutahar Anas suggested that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) may audit the Open Hand Foundation due to its vague annual expenses.
While it remains to be determined whether Open Hand broke any laws, the situation raises concerns about the transparency and integrity of charitable organizations.
