If you thought Zenyatta’s healing powers couldn’t be outmatched while transcendent, think again. One Overwatch 2 team has managed to debilitate the ultimate’s reputation, leaving the Zenyatta community stunned.
In a Reddit post on Oct. 13, a player shared a clip of their failed attempt to save their team’s D.Va as Zenyatta. They activated Transcendence to shield the low-health D.Va from incoming damage, but the enemy team had a solid plan.
Surprised, the player admitted, “I’ve never seen a team out DPS Trance before. In fact, until this moment, I thought it was borderline impossible, besides one-shot abilities.” This revelation left many Overwatch 2 players baffled by the determined squad’s act.
Other players chimed in with their own Transcendence fails. One player recounted their futile attempt to save their team’s Reinhardt from a Roadhog.
“I instantly used Transcendence, feeling safe and thinking there was nothing to worry about. I had never seen Transcendence outdamaged before,” the player wrote. “But then I watched in horror as my Reinhardt’s life slowly drained away. At a short distance, that Hog was able to break through both shield and armor, and my Transcendence!”
Despite several similar experiences shared by Overwatch 2 players, the thread also offered suggestions for improving Zenyatta gameplay. One player advised, “Body block her head hitbox, you were just behind,” indicating that the Zenyatta player could have protected D.Va by positioning themselves to block the incoming damage.
In Zenyatta’s ultimate, he can’t use weapons or abilities, but he gains increased movement speed, damage immunity, and the ability to heal himself and nearby allies at a rate of 300 HP per second. Thanks to the increased movement speed and damage immunity, Zenyatta can physically block damage from his allies by positioning himself in front of them. The player could have done the same to save their D.Va.
Zenyatta players can take away two crucial lessons from this experience.
