Anubis and Ancient: The New Favorites in CS2 Competitive Scene

Xavier Ward

Anubis and Ancient have quickly become the most popular maps among professional players in CS2, bringing a fresh and exciting dynamic to the competitive scene. These new additions to the Active Duty map pool have sparked interest among pros who are eager to explore new strategies and approaches, rather than sticking to the same old routines on maps like Inferno and Mirage. Since their introduction in October, Anubis has been played 60 times and Ancient 58 times, significantly more than other maps. Surprisingly, the once-popular Inferno has only been played 27 times, the least of all Active Duty maps.

According to data from HLTV, Anubis and Ancient are two of the three T-sided maps in professional Counter-Strike 2, alongside Vertigo. This makes them stand out among the CT-side dominant maps like Inferno, Mirage, Nuke, and Overpass. While professional players favor the new maps, casual players tend to prefer the familiarity of Mirage and Inferno, as they are more comfortable with the callouts and grenade lineups on these maps.

The preference of pros for Anubis and Ancient could potentially lead to more frequent changes in the Active Duty map pool by Valve. This would not only keep the competitive scene fresh and exciting but also encourage the community to embrace new challenges. Playing the same few maps repeatedly can become monotonous, both for players and spectators, and the introduction of new maps adds a much-needed element of variety and learning opportunities.

In conclusion, Anubis and Ancient have captured the attention of professional players in CS2, offering a refreshing change from the usual map pool. While casual players may stick to the familiar favorites, the popularity of these new maps among pros could pave the way for more frequent updates and rotations in the Active Duty map pool. It’s time to embrace change and keep the game evolving.
