Apex Legends has always been known for its epic Halloween celebrations, but in the past, the community’s response has been mixed. However, new data leaks suggest that Respawn is determined to outdo themselves this year by bringing double the usual content.
According to renowned Apex data miner, KralRindo, the upcoming Harbingers event is not the only Halloween celebration in store for 2023. The leaked event prize tracker graphics reveal the name “Doppelgangers” for the second Halloween event, which will also introduce a new limited-time mode (LTM) called Tricks N’ Treats Trios.
The prize tracker rewards for this event include four badges that can be earned by completing challenges in the LTM, as well as the Light Bender Nemesis Burst AR Skin and the Epic quality Inverse Polarity Horizon skin for completing the prize tracker.
In Tricks N’ Treats Trios, players will be dropped into the featured After Dark maps, which are older versions of the maps set at night, with iconic old points of interest (POIs) making a return. The previous Harbingers event featured World’s Edge After Dark, showcasing the season three release form of the map with Halloween decorations in places like Pain Yard and Burning Tree.
One notable difference in Tricks N’ Treats Trios is the absence of naturally spawning shields on the map. Players will have to level up their EVO shields by dealing damage to enemies or collecting candy from orange Nessie baskets scattered around the map. These candies provide EVO points for shields and ultimate charge.
Another exciting addition to the LTM is the Copycat Kit, a new survival item exclusive to Tricks N’ Treats Trios. When players find a Copycat Kit, they will be granted a tactical or ultimate ability from a select pool of legends. This ability can be used repeatedly until the player decides to swap it out for another item in the survival slot.
Respawn’s decision to amp up their Halloween celebrations this year may be a response to the lukewarm reception of their previous events. While the Shadowfall mode in 2019 and Shadow Royale in 2020 were highly praised by the community, subsequent Halloween events lacked originality and effort.
In the past, Fight or Fright events simply featured a rotation of existing modes from the Mixtape category, such as Gun Run and Control, with some maps being transformed into their After Dark versions. This lack of innovation disappointed players who were expecting more from one of Apex’s most anticipated events.
According to KralRindo, the Doppelgangers event is set to launch on October 17, which aligns with the start date of previous Halloween events. Fans can expect the festivities to continue until the end of the month, as all past Halloween celebrations have concluded in the first week of November.
