Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on Xbox in 2023, as a solution has been found between Larian Studios and Xbox at Gamescom. The game is already set to launch on PC on Aug. 3 and on PlayStation on Sept. 6. Initially, there was no news of an Xbox release, but now it has been confirmed that the game will arrive on Xbox before the end of 2023.
Platform | Features |
---|---|
Xbox Series X | Split-screen co-op |
Xbox Series S | No split-screen co-op, but cross-save progression with Steam |
The developers initially stated that the Xbox release was delayed due to a parity issue related to split-screen on Xbox Series S. However, this was denied by Phil Spencer at Gamescom. After a positive meeting between Spencer and the developers, a solution was found, and now both Xbox Series X and Series S will have the necessary improvements. The Series X will feature split-screen co-op, while the Series S will not. Both consoles will have cross-save progression with Steam.
This development is significant in terms of parity between the two Xbox consoles. It shows that not every feature needs to be present on both consoles, allowing for more flexibility in game development. Larian Studios has been working towards bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox for quite some time, and this announcement marks a major milestone in achieving that goal.
