Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios, has received eight nominations at the 2023 Game Awards. Players are already celebrating its imminent victory for Game of the Year, despite the results not being announced yet.
The game’s nominations include Best Performance, Best Multiplayer, Score and Music, Narrative, Community Support, Game Direction, and Best RPG. With such recognition, players believe Baldur’s Gate 3 has all the elements that make it a deserving winner, including a captivating storyline, immersive gameplay, and a unique combat system.
This success is particularly noteworthy as CRPGs (computer role-playing games) are still considered a niche genre, and there were doubts about how tabletop games would translate into modern video games. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 has proven that CRPGs can make a strong comeback and attract a large fanbase. Swen Vincke, the founder and CEO of Larian, hopes to see more CRPGs with unique stories emerge to cater to this dedicated fanbase.
The exceptional performances by voice actors like Neil Newbon, who portrays Astarion in the game, have also contributed to Baldur’s Gate 3’s success. Each actor has brought their character to life and garnered dedicated fan followings. While it’s unfortunate that not all the actors could be nominated, it’s gratifying to see at least one of them being recognized for their outstanding work.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the 2023 Game Awards, hoping that the voice actors, developers, and the entire team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 will win in all their nominated categories. Their previous record-breaking wins at the 2023 Golden Joysticks have set high expectations, and fans believe they have what it takes to steal the show once again.
