Blizzard president, Mike Ybarra, has put an end to players’ speculations by confirming that the next World of Warcraft expansion will not feature pirates. This comes as a disappointment to many who were convinced that the expansion would be centered around a return to Azeroth.
The rumored “Return to Azeroth” expansion was expected to revamp the old world and address longstanding issues, such as the giant sword in Silithus. Some players believed that this revamp would take place on a new mega continent called Avaloren, which was hinted at in previous patches.
However, Ybarra’s tweet has dashed these hopes, stating that pirates will not be a part of the upcoming expansion. This news comes as a surprise to those who noticed an increase in pirate-themed mounts and transmogs in the game’s shop.
Despite this setback, many players now speculate that the next expansion will focus on the Void. There have been numerous hints throughout the current expansion, including mentions of the fifth Old God and the return of Xal’atath, a powerful Void entity. Additionally, an event showcased what Azeroth would look like if the Black Empire, associated with the Void, took over.
Patch | Content |

10.1.5 | Galakrond is shown to be harvesting Void powers, and Xal’atath returns. |

While players may be disappointed by the absence of pirates in the next expansion, the focus on the Void promises an exciting and potentially game-changing experience. Only time will tell what Blizzard has in store for World of Warcraft players.
