The upcoming 2024 season of the VALORANT Game Changers EMEA league is set to bring some important changes. These changes, although not major in structure, will have a significant impact on team formation and maintenance.
A sneak peek of the upcoming changes was released by VALORANT Game Changers EMEA product manager Ashley Washington through Scoutli founder and journalist Nazli “jiji” Özmen on Twitter.
One of the key changes is that points will now belong to organizations. This is aimed at protecting players from disruptive roster changes during the season. To ensure stability, organizations will be required to retain at least three starting roster players between stages of the league, even outside of the roster lock periods. If an organization changes more than three players, they will lose points but retain their league status.
It is worth noting that these rules also apply to unsigned teams. Even if a team is not represented by an organization, they will still need to adhere to the “starting three” rule for points ownership during the season. Additionally, any new organization entering the league and signing previously unsigned teams will also be subject to this rule.
These rules only apply within a season’s various series. Teams will still have the freedom to completely switch their rosters between seasons without following the “starting three” rule. However, teams promoted into the league from Contenders will need to comply with all of these rules upon qualification.
The ownership of points is crucial as it determines which teams are eligible to qualify for the World Championship at the end of the year. If a core group of players earns points for their organization or unsigned team, they cannot be easily replaced during the current season.
The 2024 EMEA VALORANT Game Changers season is set to kick off in late January. The full calendar and further event details will be announced before the end of the year.
