Baldur’s Gate 3 characters have made an appearance in a Magic: The Gathering set called Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. Released on June 10, 2022, the set includes 13 MTG cards featuring familiar faces like Karlach, Shadowheart, Wyll, and Lae’zel. While the artwork on the cards differs from the in-game models, fans can easily recognize their favorite characters.
Players have been discussing how the characters have evolved during the game’s development, noting changes in their appearance and former classes. For instance, Minthara was originally a Cleric before the Paladin class was introduced.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access since 2020, providing ample opportunity for Wizards of the Coast, the company behind MTG, to incorporate its characters into a Dungeons & Dragons crossover. As MTG is set in a multiverse, crossovers are not uncommon, with card sets featuring Stranger Things, Street Fighter, and even Fortnite.
Given that Baldur’s Gate 3 is a licensed D&D game, Wizards of the Coast had no issues creating an expansion set for MTG. The success of the game with this license bodes well for future D&D projects, as previous attempts at D&D games have not always been successful. Larian Studios has truly achieved something remarkable with Baldur’s Gate 3.
