In the grand finals of the China Evolution Series Act Two: Selection tournament, EDward Gaming (EDG) showcased their dominance in VALORANT against Trace Esports. While Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang is usually the star player, it was Wan “CHICHOO” Shunzhi who stole the spotlight with an impressive pistol clutch.
EDG started the Haven map slowly, losing the first three rounds. However, CHICHOO stepped up and displayed his crucial role in the team by securing a remarkable four-kill Sheriff clutch. Despite facing a disadvantageous economy, CHICHOO’s exceptional aim, strategic positioning, and impeccable timing led to EDG’s first-round victory on Haven.
During round four, Trace initiated a rush on the C site, resulting in a trade kill. Sensing an opportunity, CHICHOO and ZmjKK coordinated their movements and swung out of the enemy Omen smoke together, armed with Sheriffs. This display of teamwork proved effective, as they managed to secure kills. Although EDG lost two more players, CHICHOO and ZmjKK remained standing. ZmjKK fell, but CHICHOO persevered, delivering precise shots with the Sheriff and securing the final two kills despite being left with only 10 health.
This pivotal moment sparked a momentum shift for EDG, leading them to a comfortable 13-7 victory on Haven and ultimately securing a 3-0 series win. While ZmjKK is often associated with one-tapping opponents to victory, CHICHOO demonstrated his ability to clutch when needed. His effective communication, situational awareness, and composed gameplay were instrumental in securing this round.
CHICHOO’s versatility as both a Controller and Sentinel player adds immense value to EDG’s compositions. He has proven his clutch potential before, such as in the 2023 Champions tournament where he forced a map into overtime against Giants Gaming with another impressive four-kill clutch.
In order for a VALORANT team to succeed, it requires multiple stars rather than relying solely on one player. CHICHOO is emerging as the second star that EDG needs to continue their rapid progression as a top VALORANT team. The Chinese roster has already demonstrated their potential in 2023, and now players like CHICHOO and others must step up to maintain their momentum regionally.
