Cloud9’s star sniper, Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov, has made the decision to leave the team’s Counter-Strike 2 roster, effective immediately. The organization announced today that sh1ro is now available for transfer, shocking the competitive CS2 community.
Sh1ro’s departure comes after just one event into Cloud9’s CS2 run, following their elimination in the group stage of IEM Sydney by Complexity. The team had recently made changes to their roster, bringing in Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy and Denis “electroNic” Sharipov in July.
This news adds to the already turbulent CS2 scene, as it comes shortly after reports that Natus Vincere is replacing their star AWPer, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev, with Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov. S1mple confirmed he will be taking time off but is considering joining a new organization and potentially switching roles.
Sh1ro has been a part of the same core group of players for over four years, starting with their time under the Gambit Youngsters banner in 2019. The team transitioned to the main roster within the Gambit organization in 2020 and achieved great success in 2021, including reaching the semifinals of the PGL Stockholm Major. They joined Cloud9 in 2022 but did not replicate their previous achievements.
With less than 24 hours until their match against Fnatic at the Thunderpick World Championship on October 27, Cloud9 will need to quickly find a temporary substitute for sh1ro.
