We may have the full set now. With the arrival of Inferno in the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) beta, 10 out of the 18 maps in the game have been updated to the Source 2 engine. However, it seems unlikely that we will see any more map updates before the full release of CS2.
Inferno now joins the ranks of Overpass, Vertigo, Mirage, Dust 2, Office, Nuke, Anubis, Ancient, and Italy in the CS2 beta. These maps can all be seen on the Premier map-ban system, leaving little room for additional maps.
So far, Valve has only introduced maps from the Active Duty, Casual, and Reserve Pool. This means that maps from Danger Zone, War Games, and Wingman are still waiting for the full CS2 release in Summer 2023.
Valve has not provided much information about the remaining maps, but a tweet from the CS2 developers on August 31 may have revealed their plans. The tweet showcased the overhauled CS2 rank system and the Premier map-ban feature, suggesting that there may not be space for more maps.
All the maps in the active-duty map pool have been updated for CS2 and have been featured in the Premier sneak-peek. This suggests that Valve may not be planning to add any more maps to CS2.
While Valve has not made any official announcements, the Summer 2023 release date is approaching quickly. If there are any more maps to be added, Valve will need to do so in the next few weeks.
Players are eagerly awaiting the release of CS2, and Valve’s careful approach to the update has been well-received. Hopefully, the bugs encountered in previous map updates will be minimized in Inferno, allowing Valve to release CS2 to all players soon.
