Counter-Strike 2 is on the horizon, and the franchise is thriving. Recent data reveals that CS:GO has achieved an astonishing milestone prior to the arrival of CS2.
According to SteamDB, CS:GO has consistently maintained over one million players each month since August 2022. On August 4, 2022, it recorded 1,039,889 players, reaching its peak of 1,818,773 players on April 27 of the same year.
These spikes in player numbers are not coincidental. They tend to occur whenever a new wave of CS2 beta invites is released. Shortly after the announcement of CS2 on March 30 this year, CS:GO experienced a peak of 1,511,946 players.
However, the most significant factor behind these spikes is simply the fact that CS:GO is an exceptional game. Despite claims that Counter-Strike would fade away and disappear with the emergence of VALORANT in 2020, the hype surrounding CS2 proves otherwise.
Valve has invited hundreds of thousands of new players to participate in the CS2 beta, granting access to those with Prime status and an active skill group in CS:GO. Since then, many players have been enjoying the limited test, resulting in a peak of 1,560,435 players on August 31.
With the release of CS2 scheduled for the end of summer 2023, these numbers are bound to be surpassed once the game officially launches. The future looks bright for the Counter-Strike franchise.
