Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0: Release Date and Next-Gen Exclusivity

superadmin

Cyberpunk 2077’s highly anticipated 2.0 update is set to bring major changes to the game’s core systems. Fans are eagerly awaiting this update, hoping it will redeem the game much like No Man’s Sky did. However, there are also skeptics who are ready to find new reasons to criticize the game.

Initially, it was expected that the 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion would be released simultaneously on September 26. However, a recent CD Projekt Red livestream has shattered this assumption. The update will be released exclusively for next-gen consoles and PC on September 21, a whole five days before the expansion.

This news is undoubtedly exciting for players as it allows them to familiarize themselves with the revamped systems before diving into the Phantom Liberty expansion. Both the update and the DLC will only be available for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, taking advantage of the enhanced power of next-gen systems to elevate Cyberpunk 2077 to new heights. Additionally, general performance updates are promised, providing a pleasant bonus alongside the new content.

Update 2.0 marks a significant turning point for the game, aiming to move away from its troubled launch. While a comprehensive list of all the changes can be found elsewhere, some highlights include the proper implementation of vehicle combat, a rework of the cyberware system to introduce consequences for going cyberpsycho, and a more realistic police system with dynamic car chases.

One of the most anticipated features is the complete overhaul of the perk and skill system. This update aims to eliminate useless skills and make specialization more viable. Currently, players are limited to being a gun-wielding mercenary, a hacker who also uses guns, or a melee specialist who still relies on guns. The update seeks to provide more diverse options.

The Phantom Liberty expansion, launching after Update 2.0, will introduce a new district in Night City, an accompanying branching questline, and a plethora of new weapons, cyberware, and vehicles that build upon the foundations laid by the update.

While the expansion comes with a price tag of $30, Update 2.0 alone should offer more than enough to keep players entertained. Whether or not players choose to purchase the expansion, they will have plenty to enjoy as they navigate Night City, engaging in thrilling car chases, intense combat, and captivating romances.
