Dr. Ratio: The Playable Character with a Ridiculous Name

Xavier Ward

On October 31, miHoYo introduced new playable characters for Honkai: Star Rail’s 1.6 update. While two of these recruits are ordinary, one stands out due to his name, causing players to struggle to take him seriously.

Meet Dr. Ratio, the first five-star Imaginary Hunt recruit and the character with the most absurd name since March 7th. In his splash artwork, he even poses with his hand forming an “L,” adding to the humor surrounding his name.

Players have embraced the comedic potential of Dr. Ratio’s name, creating jokes and memes around it. One player cleverly edited his splash art, adding “L+Ratio” underneath. Another imagined a humorous scenario where Dr. Ratio diagnoses people with a severe case of “L” and prescribes a daily dose of “ratio + skill issue + maidenless + cope and seethe + cry about it.”

Despite his comical name, Dr. Ratio is portrayed as a candid and self-centered member of the Intelligentsia Guild. He hides his appearance behind a strange plaster sculpture but remains dedicated to pursuing knowledge.

His character announcement quote, “The most annoying thing about idiocy is that you can’t explain it to an idiot,” suggests that he has little patience for nonsense. While Dr. Ratio may not appreciate the community’s reaction to his name, players are thoroughly enjoying it.

Some players even hope for a boss fight against Dr. Ratio, similar to encounters with other playable characters like Kafka. They want the opportunity to lose to him and proudly claim that they got “ratioed” by him.

In addition to Dr. Ratio, two other characters were unveiled for the 1.6 update. Raiden Mei, an Ice Harmony recruit, will also be a five-star character. Xueyi, a four-star Quantum Destruction unit, will join one of the two characters on their banner as a featured four-star. The specific banner placement for Xueyi has not been revealed yet.

Dr. Ratio and the other new characters will be available in Version 1.6, expected to release around December 20, 2023. Whether Dr. Ratio will be the featured character in the first half of the update followed by Raiden Mei or vice versa remains unknown. Players can look forward to experiencing Dr. Ratio’s unique persona and gameplay in the upcoming update.
