Destiny 2 players will have a better chance of obtaining the Necrochasm Exotic when the Sept. 19 patch hits. Bungie is increasing the drop rate of Essence of the Oversoul during the Crota’s End raid, making it easier to obtain this elusive resource required for the Exotic.
Starting next Tuesday, players will receive two guaranteed weekly drops of Essence of the Oversoul: one from defeating Crota and another for completing all four encounters in the raid. Additionally, every full clear of the raid will award an extra guaranteed Essence of the Oversoul. This change allows players to farm the resource and obtain the Necrochasm Exotic.
Bungie will also boost the drop rate for Essence of the Oversoul when clearing repeated encounters, and killing Crota has a chance of awarding the full amount of Essence of the Oversoul needed to obtain both Necrochasm and its Catalyst.
The drop rate for Essence of the Oversoul has been a major concern in the Destiny 2 community since the release of Crota’s End. Acquiring 20 Essence of the Oversoul through guaranteed drops alone would require over four months of weekly raid completions. The community estimates the drop rate to be between five and ten percent, making it a frustrating grind for players.
In addition to the improved drop rate, the upcoming update will introduce the first rotating challenge in the raid and the debut of Master Mode. Adept weapons in Master Mode will come with a knockout system.
Bungie’s response to player feedback and their willingness to adapt is evident in the changes made to the Necrochasm quest. This follows their recent switch of the Adept weapon in Nightfalls to the highly sought-after Warden’s Law, based on player demand.
