FaZe Clan Sets New LAN Records at CS Asia Championships

Derek Morgan

FaZe Clan’s Counter-Strike 2 team has achieved two remarkable LAN records during their first match at the CS Asia Championships in Shanghai, China.

In their previous tournament, IEM Sydney, FaZe Clan made history with a flawless 13-0 victory over ENCE, marking the first flawless CS2 map on LAN. Now, they have added another record to their name by winning the longest match on record, defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas with a score of 28-25. Yes, you read that correctly.

Initially trailing 5-11, the IEM Sydney champions showcased their signature comeback skills, staging an impressive 7-1 CT run to force overtime. The real challenge came during the overtime rounds, where both teams remained evenly matched.

Despite having three map points at 18-15, FaZe Clan couldn’t secure the win as NiP’s Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Fredrik “REZ” Sterner delivered exceptional performances, keeping their team in the game. K0nfig and REZ combined for an astonishing 90 kills throughout the five overtimes, with k0nfig averaging over a hundred damage per round. Ultimately, it was Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s FaZe Clan who emerged victorious.

While 53 rounds for a single map is impressive, it falls short compared to XENEX’s 46-42 win over exceL in 2015 or the 173-round best-of-five in the Polish regional leagues just before CS2’s launch.

This win extends FaZe Clan’s unbeaten streak in CS2, as they have yet to lose a series since their initial defeat against GamerLegion in Sydney. According to HLTV, FaZe Clan has won 23 out of 30 maps since then. If they manage to defeat MOUZ in the group stage upper match, their impressive streak will continue.

However, the odds are against FaZe Clan in this best-of-three match. After enduring a nearly three-hour map against NiP filled with technical pauses and a short 15-minute break, they now face MOUZ, who had an extended break following their dominant 13-2 victory over local team Wings Up.

Nevertheless, if there’s any team capable of overcoming such challenges, it’s FaZe Clan. The IEM Sydney champions will battle MOUZ for a spot in the CAC 2023 semifinals. A loss would mean starting the playoffs in the quarterfinals, but FaZe Clan remains determined to prove their resilience.
