Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a wide range of activities, including the opportunity to find love with a companion you meet during your journey. Larian Studios has delved deep into romance in the game, even allowing players to engage in a romantic encounter with a bear. While the romance scene with the bear is specially crafted, the same attention to detail is not given to shorter races in the game, despite some improvements in the latest patch.
Players have pointed out that there are still some major questions regarding the physics of romance scenes involving short races. A Reddit post showcased a Gnome character romancing Lae’zel, where the height difference between the two characters was not properly accounted for. The image showed the Gnome looking up at their beloved before magically being on the same level for a kiss. It seems that Lae’zel must have lifted the Gnome for the kiss, as humorously depicted in a Microsoft Paint drawing by the original poster.
Other players shared their own experiences with romance scenes involving short races. One player likened their halfling Bard romancing Karlach to climbing Mount Everest. Suggestions were made to include a “make-out stool” in the starting inventory for Gnomes, and players also shared amusing stories of mechanics in specific romance scenes, such as the Emperor using telekinesis to raise them to head height.
Fortunately, the first patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 addressed some of the major issues with romance scenes involving short races, making them less clunky. While there are still amusing aspects to be found, the overall experience has been improved.
