Former quality assurance testers who worked on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf are picketing outside BioWare’s Edmonton office on N7 Day. These unionized workers were unfairly terminated by Keywords Studios for their efforts to unionize and are demanding reinstatement. Despite attempts by Electronic Arts and BioWare to block the picketing, the Alberta Labour Relations Board ruled in favor of the union, allowing the strike to proceed.
The picket coincides with N7 Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the Mass Effect series. However, this year’s celebration has been overshadowed by another group of former BioWare employees who were laid off in August. Seven of them have filed a lawsuit against the company seeking fair severance compensation.
James Russwurm, a former Keywords tester, expressed solidarity with the laid-off BioWare employees, stating that they all worked together on Dreadwolf and faced the same fate. The picketing Keywords employees hope to demonstrate that there is a way to fight against unjust practices in the industry.
The picket line/strike is scheduled to begin outside BioWare’s Edmonton offices at 11am local time or 12pm CT.
