After two days of intense battles at the 2023 League of Legends World Championship, G2 Esports stands as the only Western team with a perfect record—and they owe it all to Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik. The top laner’s quick reactions saved the day for G2 in their match against Weibo Gaming (WBG), preventing a potential disaster.
In a chaotic teamfight near the bottom side of the map, both G2 and WBG were determined to come out on top. With nearly 50 kills accumulated in a 38-minute brawl, both teams were battered and bruised. However, WBG’s jungler, Wei “Weiwei” Bo-Han, managed to sneak behind enemy lines and set his sights on G2’s star AD carry, Steven “Hans Sama” Liv.
Weiwei charged up Vi’s Assault and Battery ability, aiming to take down Hans Sama. But just in the nick of time, BrokenBlade unleashed Yone’s ultimate ability, intercepting Weiwei and saving his teammate. This crucial move prevented Weiwei from reaching Hans Sama, denying Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao the opportunity to finish off the European carry with Azir’s damage.
Had Weiwei successfully hit Hans Sama with Vi’s Q ability, the teamfight would have likely shifted in WBG’s favor, potentially leading to victory for the LPL representative. However, thanks to BrokenBlade’s decision to protect his ADC, Hans Sama had enough time and space to secure a swift triple kill, ultimately leading G2 to victory.
With this win, G2 now has a chance to qualify for the knockout stage of Worlds, while WBG must fight for survival in the next round. Don’t miss the upcoming match between G2 and Gen.G tomorrow at 2am CT to see BrokenBlade and the rest of the team in action.
