The highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is just around the corner, set to launch on October 20th. While gamers eagerly prepare to swing through the streets of New York City, the developers at Insomniac Games are already moving on to their next project.
Tommy Mann, one of the main developers behind Spider-Man 2, recently took to Twitter to announce that Insomniac has started working on their next game, Marvel’s Wolverine, which was announced in 2021.
“I can’t wait for people to play #SpiderMan2PS5. Working on that game with so many amazing people was a lot of fun. However, today I get to start something new. #WolverinePS5????,” Mann tweeted on September 11, 2023.
While details about Wolverine are scarce due to Insomniac’s focus on Spider-Man 2, fans can’t help but be excited. The brief trailer revealed at PlayStation Showcase 2021 showed Logan unleashing his adamantium claws, leaving us to speculate about the story.
But instead of speculating, let’s channel our excitement and patiently await the game’s release. Insomniac Games delivered everything we could have hoped for with the original Spider-Man game in 2018 – incredible web-slinging, a captivating story, a diverse lineup of villains, and the introduction of Miles Morales.
As a devoted Spider-Man fan who even has a tattoo of the web-slinger, I am beyond thrilled to continue Peter and Miles’ journey in the upcoming game, where they will face off against Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom. My excitement is only amplified by the fact that I just ordered my first PlayStation 5 and have recently finished re-reading Spider-Man: Blue for the fifth time.
But in all seriousness, Spider-Man fans worldwide share this excitement. The success of Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game in 2018, coupled with the addition of more villains and gameplay mechanics in this year’s release, has us eagerly anticipating the next installment. The same goes for Wolverine.
When it comes to Marvel’s universe, there are few characters as unique and relatable as Logan. He embodies the struggle of finding one’s identity and purpose in the world, and after Hugh Jackman’s incredible portrayal in the X-Men franchise, it’s impossible not to have high hopes for the game. Especially considering how Insomniac Games treats its franchises with care and attention.
