League of Legends Starting Items Receive Buffs in 2024 Preseason

Derek Morgan

League of Legends is gearing up for the 2024 preseason with significant buffs to its iconic starting items: Doran’s Blade, Doran’s Shield, Doran’s Ring, and Dark Seal. However, players will now be limited to purchasing only one Doran item.

As Season 13 comes to a close, players are eagerly anticipating what Season 14 has in store. Riot Games has unveiled some changes that will be tested on the League PBE (Public Beta Environment) starting on September 27th.

The following starting items have received buffs on the PBE:

– Doran’s Blade: Increased health and attack damage.
– Doran’s Ring: Increased health and attack damage.
– Doran’s Shield: Increased health and health regeneration.
– Dark Seal: Increased health.

It has been quite some time since the Doran’s items received any changes. Doran’s Blade was last modified in Season 11, while Doran’s Ring received a buff in Season 12.

The reason behind these buffs could be twofold. Firstly, in Season 14, players will only be able to purchase one Doran item, so the buffs aim to compensate for this limitation. Secondly, with the removal of Mythic items, Riot Games may be boosting these starting items to make up for the loss of certain passives.

Regardless of the reasoning, it is clear that Riot Games is focusing on enhancing durability and survivability. Patch 13.17 already introduced durability buffs for champions like Briar, Aatrox, Blitzcrank, and Hecarim, among others, and the developers seem satisfied with these adjustments.

These changes to the starting items could indicate a tank-heavy metagame in Season 14, or they may serve as a countermeasure against upcoming buffs to attack damage and ability power.

It is important to note that these changes are still subject to adjustment before they are implemented on live League servers. Riot Games may tweak them at any time.

If these changes do go through, the early game in Season 14 promises to be very interesting.
