Riot Games’ new League of Legends bundle celebrating Worlds has left fans disappointed. The collection, priced at $65 USD, includes exclusive cosmetics that many believe are not worth the money. A Reddit thread discussing the bundle’s addition to the client has sparked conversations among fans.
Some fans are disappointed with the exclusivity of the bundle’s contents. For example, Renekton mains would have to spend $65 to get a complete chroma collection for their champion. This has led some to believe that Riot made this decision to keep the income flowing, targeting a specific group of players known as “whales.” Others argue that the game is free to play because there are players willing to spend money on it.
The price point of the bundle has left many fans feeling “disappointed but not surprised,” especially after the Jhin gacha controversy in August 2023. One commenter even joked about Riot’s decision to make a previously-exclusive skin available to everyone.
The Worlds Unlocked Collector’s Edition and Digital Edition were announced recently. The physical Collector’s Edition, priced at $125, includes all the items from the Digital Edition along with additional goodies like a Teemo figurine, a Tibbers plush, and a commemorative cap and pin.
The primary point of contention is the Digital Edition, which includes the Event Pass and this year’s Worlds Renekton skin. Those who purchase this bundle will receive an exclusive Renekton chroma, an icon, a couple of emotes, and an “unvaulted” skin capsule for past Worlds skins.
While many users accept that the game is free to play and understand that others will purchase the bundle without any issue, there is a sense of nostalgia for a time when League was a small game from a small indie company.
