Dota 2 fans were in for a surprise during the elimination series between Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid when Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen joined the talent panel. However, his unbiased commentary came to an abrupt end after Gaimin’s 2-1 win.
Throughout the first two days of the TI12 main event, Matu provided insightful analysis and entertaining commentary, trying to hide his allegiance to Team Liquid. He even took Blitz’s PC to play World of Warcraft, adding to the amusement.
Matu’s highlights included praising Nisha as the best player in the world and sharing his thoughts on hero viability. He also faced a dilemma when Gaimin drafted his favorite hero, Lone Druid, for Ace in game two.
However, in game three, Matu returned to his unbiased stance. Unfortunately, Liquid’s loss to Gaimin marked the end of their TI12 journey, leaving Matu and Liquid fans devastated.
“Gaimin Gladiators has been an exceptional team throughout the season,” Matu acknowledged. “Congratulations to them on their amazing performance. As a Liquid fan, it’s a sad day. I, like every Liquid fan, need a beer right now. Liquid is out, so Matu is out. Screw this.”
Although the broadcast didn’t capture Matu’s departure, eyewitnesses at TI12 confirmed that he removed his microphone and left the panel area early, leaving the other talent to regain composure and continue the broadcast.
According to Reddit users, Matu was greeted off-stage by Resolut1on, and the two shared a laugh, high five, and hug before the former Team Secret player joined the panel.
It remains uncertain whether Matu will return for any future panels during the final day of TI12. For now, he is likely with his former teammates, trying to recover from the disappointment of their 2023 Dota 2 campaign.
