Get ready for a massive download as Modern Warfare 3’s pre-load for multiplayer and Zombies modes is now live. But that’s not all – there’s also a colossal day-one update for MW3, with the PlayStation 5 version weighing in at 99 GB and the Xbox version at a staggering 135 GB. If you have additional content packs installed, be prepared for even more updates. Thankfully, you can uninstall certain files if you don’t plan on playing them, like the campaign mode which takes up around 50 GB. However, some content packs are necessary to launch the app.
Activision’s decision to consolidate Call of Duty games into one app has resulted in an enormous file size, causing headaches for players with slow internet speeds. The file sizes have become so massive that the standard one-terabyte hard drives on consoles are no longer sufficient. Many players, including myself, can only have a handful of games installed at a time and often need to delete something to make room for new ones.
On top of that, Modern Warfare 2 and its content packs are also taking up a significant amount of space, with the PS5 version alone exceeding 200 GB. This means that players may soon have to make the tough decision of deleting MW2 to accommodate MW3 and its content packs.
The MW3 servers will go live on consoles at midnight local time worldwide and at 11pm CT on November 9th for PC on Battle.net and Steam.
